Blog

Empties: August 2016

Christine Comelli

Before I started blogging, I never realised how quickly I went through products.. Or maybe it's because I'm being more conscious about using products up so I can make a blog post about it? Anyways, my Empties box at home has filled up once again, so I thought I'd pop this article up with my thoughts on the products that I've used up :) Enjoy!

1) Maybelline: Fit Me! Foundation (Dewy & Smooth)
I didn't mind this foundation - it probably isn't my favourite foundation of all time but it had relatively good coverage and looked quite natural due to its dewy finish :) I wish that it had a pump to make it easier to apply, so I probably wont pick this one up again, but I did still enjoy the look of it.

2) Garnier: Micellar Cleansing Water
I really liked this micellar water, however I did realise that I often gravitate towards make-up wipes for make-up  removal over micellar water as it's just a lot quicker and more convenient, so I'll probably be sticking to my 'Wot Not Make-Up Removing Wipes' for a while.

3) Muk: Deep Muk Shampoo and Conditioner
This shampoo and conditioner is amazing! Mum brought it home after one of her hairdresser visits and the whole family loves it! It makes your hair so shiny and soft and smells amazingggg! We've already got a few back-ups of these in the bathroom!

4) Frank: Original Coffee Scrub
I do really enjoy using coffee scrubs as a body exfoliant, however I did prefer the 'Cleo & Marc Coffee Scrub Bars' (read two posts previous to this) as they were in a firmer bar-like form so you didn't lose so much product when using it. Saying that, I did enjoy Frank Body Scrub for sure but would go for the Cleo & Marc option from now on :)

5) Lush: Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub
I got this shower scrub as a gift from Olivia at work when she was moving overseas. I had never tried the Lush Shower Scrubs before and really enjoyed this one! It's a sea-salt body scrub which was bright blue (so it definitely brightened up the shower!) But I found it left my skin feeling nice and soft after using it.

6) Dove: Go Fresh Deodorant (Pomegranate)
I adore Dove deoderant and use it all the time - this one or the cucumber one are my favourites :)

7) Korres: Wile Rose Brightening Mask
I got this little face mask tester tube from Mecca in Melbourne. I love Korres lip balms and shower gels, but the face mask has probably been my least-favourite product that I've tried. It didn't irritate my skin or do anything bad, I have just tried masks that I prefer over this one so probably won't be re-purchasing this.

8) Neutrogena: Deep Clean Pink Grapefruit Foaming Cleanser
I do enjoy the Neutrogena foaming cleansers and usually keep one in the shower so I can cleanse my face when I'm showering at nights (and then pop some toner and moisturiser on once I get out of the shower). My favourite one that I've tried so far though is the Aqua-Cleanse Cleanser.

9) Stila: Smudge Stick (Midnight Blue)
I do love Stila eye products, but since I barely ever line my waterline in dark colours, it took a while for me to get through this and it did dry out before I got to the end of it (not the products fault, mainly mine because I don't use dark liners under my eyes). I only use dark eyeliners if I'm doing a cat-eye flick and I prefer the Stila Stay All Day Felt-Tip Liner for that.

10) Revlon: Colourstay Eyebrow Pencil
My sister got this as a freebie when she purchased some Revlon products from Myer and passed this on to me. I never used eyebrow products before using this and this has totally changed my routine! I love using this! I know it looks a little light for me, but I get scared using darker eyebrow pencils as I don't want it to look too intense. So this pencil works perfectly for me to just fill in all the gaps and make my eyebrows look a little ore even.

11) Korres: Lip Butter (Quince)
I adore this product and have already purchased another (but in the Guava flavour this time) Love love love. That is all :)

12) Korres: Bergamont Pear Showergel
I also adore this product! These two are my absolute favourite Korres products that I've tried so far - their scents are amazing!

13) ColourPop: Lippie Stix (Cookie)
I honestly think that this colour is the perfect nude for me and I think that's why I made it through the whole stick (this image was taken a few months ago hehe). The shape of the packaging made it so easy to pop it into my wallet when I was out during the day and allowed me to top-up so easily. Love this product and for such a low price, I would recommend it to anybody (although the shipping costs an arm and a leg, so maybe make a bulk order with other ColourPop goodies!)

14) Jurlique: Moisture Replenishing Day Cream
Made it through the whole tube of this and have now re-purchased another Jurlique moisturiser (but this time got the Rose Moisture Plus cream). The rose one smells even better but isn't as intense. I've really been enjoying Jurlique products lately :)

Book Review: It's Not How Good You Are, It's How Good You Want To Be

Christine Comelli

If you've never heard of Paul Arden, he used to be the creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi (a large advertising agency in New York) and has written a whole bunch of books surrounding advertising and motivation in business. 'It's Not How Good You Are, It's How Good You Want To Be' is one of his super easy-reads, so I decided to pick it up and have a read.

I loved the fact that the book was set out in loads of two or one-page chapters and had to-the-point motivational tips on how to get the job you want or how to start your own business. There were a few quirky bits 'n' pieces throughout the book, one in particular that is jumping out to me at this moment was the chapter on allowing yourself to make mistakes and to try and find a company to work for who celebrate mistakes, where in this chapter, the editor made a spelling mistake in the title, so Arden decided to leave it there as it coincidentally happened on the chapter about making mistakes. This was an interesting thing to hear as I remember last year, when I went to the TedEX Dreams live-screening at the Jam Factory, a creative director from Google X was explaining how the studio rewards failures as the teams that work on the creative projects have nutted out every possible solution, so they get bonuses if this happens!

If you want a quick pick-me-up or business read I'd definitely recommend Paul Arden's book! It will take you no longer than 45 minutes to read and it's also super easy to get your hands on :) I found mine at Kikki.K!

My Favourite: Design Stores

Christine Comelli

Hi guys! I'm so sorry I haven't been posting blog posts as frequently lately - I was working doing graphics for a trade event recently which just passed two weeks ago and have also started my final semester of uni too! :) So over the next ten or so weeks, I will probably only post once a week, but I promise after I've finished my final project, I'll get back to posting twice, or even three times a week!
Anyways, back to this post topic! :) Today I spent the day in the city just wandering around and visiting some of my favourite stores whilst I was waiting for my sister to finish her uni tests. This inspired me to write up this post of my favourite design stores around Melbourne (and a few online stores at the end!) I hope you enjoy my little round-up and if you have any stores that you think I/anybody else will love, feel free to comment on this post! :)

Cleo & Marc: Coconut Body Scrub

Christine Comelli

I've been super into the coffee scrub phase lately and have recently been using Frank Coffee Scrub, which I have absolutely been loving! I thought that nothing could beat Frank, until I tried this! :) The Cleo & Marc coffee scrubs come in a bar-form (as you can see below) which makes it even more convenient to use! The only con about Frank body scrub is that it was hard to focus on scrubbing one area before it had all been washed away by your shower water - but the Cleo & Marc scrub bar makes this so much easier! They will last you one wash and leave your skin feeling fresh and moisturised as well as filling up your shower with a super-good coffee scent! :)
I love that these coffee scrub bars are made out of all-natural exfoliants and moisturisers  and are hand-made here in Melbourne! These have made my initial love for coffee-scrubbing so much easier and I'll definitely be getting my hands on some more of these as my skin has been feeling super soft and hydrated since I used mine just last night!

If you want to get your hands on some of Cleo & Marc's Coffee Scrubs or find out a little more info, feel free to visit their site here:

Review: Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

Christine Comelli

This palette was one of the best purchases I've made! I only own three palettes including this one - two small eyeshadow palettes and then this! I had never tried Tarte products before but heard that their face products in particular were amazing, so when I saw this product on the Sephora website, it was something I really wanted to try! Especially at it's price-point, where I got to then try a range of their eyeshadows AND face products! This is so perfect for travel as it's in a sleek circular plastic case and has almost all the make-up you need, saving you having to carry around a separate blush, bronzer, highlighter and eyeshadows. This has come in handy particularly when I have to stay over at friend's or family's houses as it's easy to just pick-up and go! :) I would highly recommend this palette and the products too are beautiful in it and suitable for either everyday with the browns or night-time with it's darker purple/mauve and metallic shades. Below I've done some swatches for you so you can see if it's something you'd like :) Enjoy!

A/W '16 Finders Keepers Wishlist

Christine Comelli

The Melbourne AW '16 Finders Keepers market is happening this weekend and as it's one of my absolute favourite events of the year, I thought I'd eyeball some pretty little finds on the exhibitors list from the Finders Keepers website to show you a little selection of the beautiful goods that you can find at the market! The Finders Keepers showcases a range of Melbourne designers, artists and makers' works that you can pick up on the days of the market and take home with you! :) There are so many beautiful things at the Finders Keepers and if you've never been, I'd highly recommend popping by to either buy some little bits 'n' bobs for yourself, or even to find a few gifts for family and friends! :)

The Melbourne Finders Keepers is happening this Friday-Sunday (22nd-24th July) at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. The times change depending on which day you decide to go, but it's a great weekend thing to do! :)

1) Celia Loves: Cucumber Melon Soy Candle

2) Popped: Hopscotch Caramel Popcorn

3) Kisah: Coloured String Necklace

4) Koa By Kaitlin: Large Mug

5) Shuh: Cosmic Love Pillowcase

6) Emma Kate Co: This is For You Tag

7) Rara Studio: Ceramic Spoon and Bowl

9) Che Sara: Tutti Baskets

10) Dot and Co: Little Jugs

Company Focus: 3INA

Christine Comelli

I'm not too sure if you've heard about this brand - I definitely hadn't until a few weeks ago! I am part of a Facebook Page called Beauty News which is run by two Melbournian beauty bloggers, and everybody in the group post images or screen-captures of products that are releasing soon or make-up news that they've heard of/seen. It was from this group that I found out about 3INA - a Spanish make-up brand who opened up their fourth store in the world in our very own Melbourne Central! :) I popped in last week to have a look and picked up a few goodies to see how they were - and my verdict so far: I love them! PLUS they're so, so affordable! Not one thing in the store was over $15.00 I don't believe (not including skin-care)! I've got a few swatches and bits 'n' pieces down below if you're interested in seeing how they come up! :)

1) The Intense Lipstick: Shade 301
The lipstick and cream eyeshadow were by far my favourite products from the range of things that I tested out :) the Intense lipstick formula had such great payoff and the colour I picked up is a lovely bright-nude for everyday wear.

2) The Cream Eyeshadow: Shade 313
The cream eyeshadow is awesome by 3INA! The colour I picked up was a lovely bronze neutral colour and there was also a gold that I was eye-balling when I went in too :)  it's got a mousse-like consistency but wears a lot like the Josie Maran watercolour eyeshadows (featured in my previous post). They are super long lasting and you do need a good eye-makeup remover to get them off!

3) The Eyeliner: Shade 502
The eyeliner was probably my least favourite product that I picked up at 3INA. I liked the packaging, but it transferred a little bit streaky when swatched and when used on the eye, the tip was a little bit thick to get a defined line, especially at the end of a winged liner.

4) The Eyeshadow Brush
I quite like the eyeshadow brush :) it's very fluffy and full and does a great job of blending out colours. It's quite similar to the Real Techniques eyeshadow brush which I love!

Favourites: June 2016

Christine Comelli

So June has come and gone and I am again in awe of how fast this year is going by. Here's a monthly round-up of my favourite products of the month :) enjoy!

1) Zoè Foster-Blake: Amazinger Face
Zoè and Hamish are my favourite people in the whole entire world and I was so excited to hear that Zoè was releasing an updated version of her original book 'Amazing Face'. I didn't yet own Amazing Face, but had picked it up and had a flick-through whilst book-shopping, so I pre-ordered Amazinger Face as soon as she had annouched pre-orders on her Instagram account. It is just the most adorable book :) it's filled with skincare and make-up tips and is jazzed up in good-old ZFB fashion with adorable graphics and a hilarious tone to it!

2) Kikki.K: Wellness Planner (Grey)
So I decided to move out of my Family Diary for the year and shift back into my planner and I'm so happy I did! I really did love the layout of my Family Diary, but having everything condensed into planner form was something I really did miss when using my diary. I cannot recommend Kikki.K planners enough - I keep all of my uni notes, dates and appointments and plan everything in mine! I'll start putting together a 'What's in my Planner' post actually in the next few weeks so you can see how I utilise my planner! :)

3) Josie Maran: Coconut Watercolour Eyeshadow (Rio De Rose Gold)
I picked this up a few months ago but have just started to use it quite a bit. This is such a pretty product and the pigmentation is intenseee, so it makes it a perfect fit for a night out! The only down-side to this product is that the pigment separates from the coconut water, so you do have to give it a little mix-up with a tooth-pick before use, but it is so, so worth it for the colour payoff!

4) Soap & Glory: Girligo Moisturising Mist
I think it's a given that any Soap & Glory product you pick up is going to smell like heaven and this product is no exception! It smells like sweet marshmallows and lovely sweets and just smells so, so good! It's such a quick and easy way to moisturise your body and whilst it's not as hydrating as a Body Shop or Korres body butter, if you are lazy like me in terms of body-moisturising, I'd highly recommend this!

5) ASOS: Ultimate Chunky Cardigan (Blush)
I am really going through a peach/blush phase at the moment and I got a hold of this cardigan a few months ago from ASOS. It is completely sold out online, but I'm so glad I got my hands on it when I did because it's the perfect throw-over cardi for everyday wear :)

6) Australis: Ready Set Go Finishing Powder
Powdering my face was never something I really considered adding into my make-up routine until I started watching NikkieTutorials and PatrickStarrr and after watching a few of their videos, I was tempted to give it a go! I looked for something that was super affordable so I could test it out and see if I liked it, so I picked up this Australis powder which is around $10 at Priceline. I actually am really enjoying it! It sets my make-up and makes it last much longer than it would without anything added to it. I am a fan! :)

7) L'Oreal: Infallible Mattifying Base
I have been loving this primer, it feels so nice on the skin and makes my make-up last all-day, even if I have a seven hour shift at work and then need to head somewhere straight after!

8) ColourPop: LippieStix (Lumiere)
I adore ColourPop and all of their LippieStix and just all of their products that I own, but I've found that during the past month, I've been grabbing Lumiere more than any other lip product that I own! It's such a pretty nude-purple-brown colour which is perfect for the colder months.

BCNARCOS.jpg

9) Moo: Business Cards
I was so excited when my business cards came in the mail! Here's a little image of what they came out like and I was so happy with their finish and how easy it was to get these uploaded and printed! I could not recommend Moo enough :)

10) NetFlix: Narcos
This is going to sound unusual, but I have fallen in love with this NetFlix show about Pablo Escobar! I haven't yet finished the first season, but I'm very close to the end and it's sooo addictive! According to IMDB, here's a little synopsis of what it's about (written by Soumik Ghosh):
'Narcos tells the true-life story of the growth and spread of cocaine drug cartels across the globe and attendant efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. It centers around the notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) and Steve Murphy (Holbrook), a DEA agent sent to Colombia on a U.S. mission to capture and ultimately kill him.'

BellaBox Unboxing: June 2016

Christine Comelli

I loved my first BellaBox, so was so excited when the next one arrived at my door-step! :) The theme for June's BellaBox was 'Winter Switch' to help us prepare for the cold months, dry skin, chapped lips and to bring us cooler-toned products after transitioning from the summer warms.

1) Dermal: Lip Balm
This was one of my favourite products from this month's box! I wasn't expecting too much as the packaging just looks like something plain that you could find at Coles - but I was pleasantly surprised :) it kinda smells like bubble gum and when you pop this on your lips overnight, it works wonders!

2) Colgate: Optic White Toothpaste
I haven't yet tested this product out, but it's a cult favourite that I've seen all over the interweb so I'm excited to try it out! :) Apparently the results are amazing, so I can't wait to see the differences this makes for me!

3) Your Tea: Skin Magic Tea
Apparently Your Tea is an Aussie brand, so I was happy to see that they popped up in BellaBoxes this month :) they use Chinese Medicine principles to achieve wellness, better skin and other great things! I am more of a black-tea gal, but this was a nice change and definitely was a Winter Warmer :)

4) Magnetix: Nail Polish
There's always that one product that I'm not super keen on that comes in the BellaBox and whilst I love nail polishes, I wasn't super excited about this nail polish. I do prefer wearing more vibrantly coloured polishes, even during the winter. The nail polish came with two little magnets which were meant to make patterns on the nails if you held them over each finger for 15 seconds.. but I didn't notice much of a change when following the process. It was okay - if you like dark nail polishes, you'd probably like this, but I wouldn't purchase it because of the 'magnetic effect' unfortunately.

5) Mizon: Tone-Up Mask
The packaging of this was beautiful!! The mask was quite fun to try, but I probably wouldn't get into a routine of wearing cloth masks as I do prefer cream masks much more. It smelt very refreshing and left my skin feeling lovely, but since cream masks are much more convenient, I think I'll be sticking to them for a while.

6) Cetaphil: Cleansing Wipes
I am such a fan of efficient cleansing/toning/moisturising methods and I was such a fan of these Cetaphil cleansing wipes! They make taking off make-up and cleansing the skin so, so easy and I would definitely recommend something like this if you want a quick and easy skin-care routine :)
